Classes and Programs for Homeschoolers

This is a list of classes and programs that are specific for homeschoolers in the Lowcountry. There are countless opportunities in our community for learning outside of this list as well. If you know of an organization or own a company that is offering classes for homeschoolers please contact us with this information. These offerings are constantly changing and evolving.

Summerville:

Dorchester County Recreation - located in Summerville. Offering a homeschool co-op/enrichment program through outdoor exploration for ages 5-12. Meets at Ashley River Park on Fridays. Also offers a variety of nature based classes for all ages. Classes are low cost.

Homeschool PE at YMCA - located in Knightsville. 8 week program. Choose one or two days a week. Focus on gymnastics and/or swimming.

Homeschool Rec Program at YMCA - located in Downtown Summerville. Beginning August 12th for the fall session. Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10am - 12pm. PE, Art, gardening, group exercise, STEM, and more. Ages 5+. Contact genym@summervilleymca.org for more info.

Chango Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - located in Summerville. Offering homeschool BJJ classes on Mondays and Wednesday from 9-10am.

All Thing Acre Petting Zoo - located in Summerville. All Thing Acre Petting Zoo offers farm animal petting and an educational information. Visits are by appointment only to maintain small groups for learning. Check their page for events.

Public Works Art Center - located in Summerville. Hosts many events and classes including homeschool art classes (classes cost). (free)

Summerville Orchestra Youth Philharmonic - located in Summerville. Youth string orchestra for 6th-10th grades.

Summerville Family YMCA - located in Summerville. Homeschool Gymnastics classes are available Mondays & Tuesdays at 1pm.

Vivid Art School - located in the Wescott area of Summerville. Vivid Art School is ran by a homeschool mom and offers themed 4 week class cycles for ages 6-17. They meet on Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30.

Karen DeLoach Art - located in Summerville. Karen DeLoach is a college art instructor, long time home school mom and teacher, author of three art books and ceramic artist, who loves to draw and paint! She teaches groups and one on one classes.

Little Palms Play Garden - multiple locations (Summerville, James Island, West Ashley, & Mt. Pleasant). They offer outdoor playdate programs for ages 18 months - 5 years old.

Pencil Path Tutoring - located in Summerville. Offering various tutoring opportunities.

Pepper Jack Pottery - located in Summerville. Offering walk in studio time, field trips, camps, birthday parties, and fun themed events.

Katie’s Krops - located in Summerville. Not only does Katie’s Krops offer amazing volunteer opportunities, even for kids, they also have an outdoor classroom with a variety of classes available. (free/low cost)

Summerville Thunderbolts - located in Summerville. This is a rec cross country team that meets at Gahagan park.

D-Bat of Summerville - offering homeschool group lessons on Wednesdays at 1pm for all ages.

You Can Shine Gymnastics - located in Nexton. YCS offering homeschool classes Monday - Wednesday.

Inspire Gymnastics - located in Summerville. Inspire offers day time classes.

Abstract Adventures - located in Goose Creek. Offering multiple classes a week for homeschoolers.

Davita’s Funtastic Gymnastics - located in Summerville. Offering a homeschool gymnastics class on Wednesday’s at 9am.

Gracie Barra Summerville - located in Summerville. Offering BJJ classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-1pm for ages 5 to 12.

Mathnasium - multiple locations: Summerville, West Ashley, and Mt. Pleasant. Homeschool tutoring available from 10am to 2pm.

Buddy’s Barn & Family Farm - located in Dorchester. Offering farm and horse classes as well as a Nature Buddies program. Nature Buddies will meet on Thursdays for 6 weeks for ages 2-10.

TR Tutoring Solutions - located in Ladson. Offering homeschool support and teaching, tutoring (one on one or in pods), test prep, summer enrichment, and more.

Lowcountry Music Academy - located in Nexton. Offering a variety of homeschool classes on Mondays and Thursdays as well as Mommy and Me and Mom’s Morning Out programs.

Charleston Family Martial Arts - located in Cane Bay. Homeschool karate classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am. Ages 6+.

Steady Driver Training - located in Summerville. Offering reduced rate drivers training to homeschool students who schedule classes between 9:15am and 1:30pm on weekdays.

Believe Jiu-Jitsu - located in Summerville. Homeschool BJJ classes are every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10am.

Summerville Youthdreams Company - SYDC - located in Summerville. SYDC offers youth musical theater composed of a Junior Company (grades 2-5) and a Senior Company (grades 6-12).

JSMhandbuilt clay creations - located in Summerville. Offering homeschool art classes Mondays and Thrusdays at 10:30am for ages 6-12.

Oh My! Creative - located in Nexton. OHC is hosting a fun Homeschool Club at their craft studio. The club meets one day a week, you pick either Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 10-11:30am. For ages 5-14 yrs. Subscribe to classes either monthly, seasonally, or yearly.

Summerville Dance Academy - located in Summerville. They’re offering Homeschool tumbling on Wednesdays 10am for ages 6-8 and 11am for ages 9-12.

Stars & Strikes - located in Summerville. Stars & Strikes is hosting a homeschool bowling league this fall. Each team will have 4 teammates. The teams can bowl on weekdays from 12-5pm, each team should bowl two games a week. The fee is $7 per player (includes shoes) and due each week. Contact ahayes@starsandstrikes.org to register.

The Dungeon - located in Summerville. The Dungeon is offering a homeschool PE classes for ages 11-18. Nov 3rd - Dec 10th Mondays & Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30. $150/child; $125/sibling. Call Lindsay to reserve your spot 843-568-3858.

We Rock the Spectrum - located in Summerville. Join their Homeschool Happy Hour on Tuesdays from 12pm - 2pm.

Moncks Corner:

Time for Tots at Old Santee Canal Park - located in Moncks Corner. This is an engaging program for ages 2-5. Classes are every other Wednesday at 10am for $5/child. Preregistration is required. For questions contact Cindy Moyer (843-899-5200). (low cost)

Homeschool Days at Old Santee Canal Park - located in Moncks Corner. These homeschool days are for individual homeschoolers (you can book group field trips as well) and usually held once a month on Wednesdays at 10am. Preregistration is required. A Home For School - located in Moncks Corner. This is a half day learning pod that meets 3 days a week as well as STEM classes on Wednesday. They offer classes for pre-k - 6th grade. Mrs. Spann also offers other educational resources on her website, including learning kits, homeschool consultations, lesson planning, and tutoring.

Intensity Co-op - located in Moncks Corner. Intensity Cheer Elite offers various homeschool class opportunities for all ages at times that are convenient to homeschool families.

The Sugared Magnolia Bakery, LLC - located in Moncks Corner. Baking classes will be held on Fridays. 1st - 5th grade from 10:00-11:30am. 6th - 12th grade from 12:00-2:00pm.

Book/Plates Food Education - located in Moncks Corner. Offering homeschool culinary classes. Teen classes start Sept 12, 2025.

French Classes - located in the Moncks Corner/Goose Creek area. Available for middle and high school students. Taught by Paris native, Helene Minard. Contact her at 843-364-1643 or hbminard@gmail.com

Open Door Ministries Sports & Wellness - located in Moncks Corner. Offering homeschool tennis lessons on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10-11am.

Olympia Gymnastics - located in Moncks Corner. Olympia is offering a homeschool class on Wednesdays at 11am. 4yrs old and up.

errow.artistry - located in Foxbank in Moncks Corner. Offering monthly homeschool art classes, Enchanted Easels. Check out their facebook profile for upcoming dates and registration.

North Charleston:

House Theatre - located at in North Charleston at Greenridge Church. They offer homeschool programs for stage, choir, dance and script. Programs meet on Mondays and they have programs for almost every age group.

Goose Creek Recreation Center - located in Goose Creek. Play-nastics: Every Monday from 10am-12pm the gymnastics area is open for ages 1-5. Every Wednesday from 10am-12pm the gymnastics area is open for ages 5 and up. Fees: Residents: $5 for 1 child/$3 additional siblings; Non-residents: $7 for 1 child/$5 additional siblings, Cash only.

Holy City Archers - located in N. Charleston. A homeschooling archery team for 4th - 12th graders.

Carolina Ice Palace - located in N. Charleston. They offer homeschool ice skating lessons for all levels as well as freeskate and parents and tots classes on Fridays at 10:30.

Homeschool Kids Camp @ Palmetto Clayground - located in N. Charleston. Arts and crafts classes held through out the month. Classes range from $15-30.

R and R Acres - located in Jamestown, SC; also offers classes in North Charleston. On and off farm classes available on a variety of farm and bee keeping topics.

Charleston County Parks - multiple locations. They offer many learning opportunities for all ages. Specifically for homeschoolers they have Homeschool in the Parks, these are offered once or twice a month. Classes typically cost $7-10.

Charleston Jazz Academy - located in North Charleston. The homeschool band meets on Tuesdays and welcomes any level of experience for students 4th - 12th grade.

Grassroots Gymnastics - located in North Charleston. They offer homeschool classes on Thursdays. Kinder (5 yrs old) meets at 10am, beginner and intermediate for ages 6 and up meets at 11am.

Firefly Farmstead & Apothecary - meets at Luminary Chiropractic in Hanahan, SC and virtual. Offers monthly classes for homeschoolers.

Charleston Swim - locations vary. Offering swim instruction from beginner to advanced (2 months to adulthood), with teacher training to support diverse needs, including autism. They offer a Swim Team Prep class for those seeking to improve their skills. Choose a daytime lesson time that best suits your homeschool schedule!

Guitar Center - located in North Charleston. Offering music classes for homeschoolers.

Goose Creek Community Center - offers a variety of classes to the community. Some are free and some are low cost.

Charleston Animal Society - located in North Charleston. They have multiple programs from volunteering to enrichment. Raising Readers allows children to read to the animals in the shelter for $5. Mon - Fri from 12pm-2:30pm in 30 min sessions, ages 5+. Homeschool Days is a 1.5 hr educational program for ages 8-11. This is a drop off program. Fall and spring dates will be posted on their website. They host service days in the fall and spring. They have a volunteer program on Saturdays called Shelter Squad as well as a teen serve program.

TTC Culinary Institute - located at the Downtown and North Charleston campuses. Learning opportunities for students and families to explore the world of culinary arts through continuing education classes. Contact Dana Heider at 843-820-5000 or dana.heider@tridenttech.edu with questions.

Creative Living - located in Park Circle. Offering theater classes on Mondays from 1:30-3pm for ages 9-12. Classes are offered in sessions or per class. These are drop off classes. Check website for updates.

Civil Air Patrol - located at the Air Force base. Civil Air Patrol transforms youth into dynamic citizens and aerospace leaders through a curriculum that focuses on four elements: leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character. If you’re between 12 and 18 years of age and dreaming about a career in aviation, space or the military, CAP’s Cadet Program is for you. There is also a squadron that meets in Cottageville.

RPM Driving School - located in N. Charleston. RPM offers weekday classes to accommodate homeschoolers.

West Ashley:

Gymnastics Academy of Charleston - located in West Ashley. Homeschool class takes place on Monday and Wednesday at 11:15am.

Charleston Rhythmics - located in West Ashley. Rhythmic gymnastic classes with a variety of options including homeschool and adaptive classes.

Pack Athletics - located in West Ashley. They offer tumbling and ninja classes on Mondays at 11:30am and acro classes on Tuesday at 11:15am.

Amorous Dance Aerial Hammock Class - Located in West Ashley. Ages 5+. Thursdays from 11am-12pm. 843-819-3482

Next Level Photo Education - located in West Ashley in the Citadel Mall. They offering photography classes from elementary to high school using a full photography curriculum integrating English, math, science, social studies and art skills at each level. Check out their website for the schedule.

Ms. Tasha’s Social Time - located in West Ashley at West Ashley park. Ages 4.5-7 years old meet on Thursdays from 10:30-11:30am, parents stay. Ages 6-8 meet on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm, this age group is a drop off program.

West Ashley Gymnastics - located in West Ashley. They offer a homeschool class on Wednesdays from 12:30-1:30 for 6-9 year olds.

Grassroots Gymnastics - located in West Ashley. Offers homeschool class on Thursdays at 11am for beginners and intermediate gymnastics.

Reforge Charleston - located in the Citadel Mall. Reforge Charleston is an education based, non-profit makerspace. They offer classes and memberships for all sort of projects and programs. They are partnering with GLOW to provide homeschool specific classes this fall. The first session starts Sept. 18th.

Craft & Canvas - located in West Ashley. Craft & Canvas offers art classes for homeschoolers for grades 1st - 12th on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Flexible enrollment and sibling discounts available.

The Islands:

Growing Spirit - located on Johns Island. An immersive nature program. Explore nature while learning to respect all Mother Nature does for us. Children also have the opportunity to learn archery, kayaking, gardening, botany, swimming, and free play in the woods and spring fed pond. Growing Spirit Nature Days are on Wednesdays from 10a-2p during the school year. Summer camps run through June and July. Heart Beatz Dance Academy - located in Johns Island. They offer homeschool enrichment camps in seasonal sessions. They have classes that meet on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 9:30-12:30. Their classes are geared toward 4-10 years old.

Palmetto Youth Choir - located on James Island. This is a secular youth choir for ages 6-18 that meets on Monday evenings at the Arts and Cultural Center. Registration opens August 1st. Rehearsals begin August 18th.

Pluff Mud Farm - located on Wadmalaw Island. This is a fiber farm that offers homeschool art classes and field trips. Check out their page for upcoming classes.

Sea Island Music Studio - located on Johns Island. Sarah teaches online voice, piano, and general music lessons. She primarily teaches individual students but can also teach small group sessions. Sessions are scheduled once a week. Students are ages 5 through adult.

Bit o Gold Equestrian - located in Wadmalaw. Horse farm currently offering Presence of the Horse program for homeschoolers. This unmounted program encourages your child to learn at their pace, with the assistance of one of our instructors and their peers!

Pluff Mud Pottery - located on Folly Road. They offer make your own pottery and fun events for kids!

Drama Kids Charleston South - located on Johns Island. Offering homeschool classes for multiple age groups.

Liz Barry Studios - located on James Island. Homeschool clay art classes held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Liz also sells at home clay art kits, available here.

The Red Barn Art Studio - located in Johns Island. Offers classes for kids and adults as well as summer camps.

Hablo Espanol Homeschool Spanish Immersion - locations in James Island and Mt. Pleasant. Offering 10 week sessions meeting on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Email hablo.espanolchs@gmail.com.

Little Palms Play Garden - located on James Island. They offer outdoor playdate programs for ages 18 months - 5 years old on Tuesdays at 9am. Little Palms also offers Backyard Homeschool days on select Tuesdays (see website) for ages 4-8 from 9-11:30am.

James Island Arts & Cultural Center - located in James Island. The Arts & Cultural center offers various programs for kids and adults. Check out their website for current schedules.

Dance Moves Charleston - located in James Island and Nexton. Interested in hosting homeschool classes during the day. Daytime preschool classes available at 12:30 on Thursdays.

Rural Areas:

Homeschool Club - located at the Holly Hill Library. Meets every other Tuesday at 10am. Come hang out and meet other homeschoolers while playing games. Please RSVP to attend. (free)

Recess & Results with Marea - located in Holly Hill at Hickory Bluff Berry Farm. This is an outdoor homeschool program. Ages 5-13. Drop in or membership options.

Outside Inn Campground - located in Santee. Offering Homeschool Mornings on the Farm, where kids can learn all about farming and agriculture in a fun and interactive way. These farm days happen on various Wednesdays and Fridays every month. Also, check out their Facebook page here.

Downtown Charleston:

Charleston Gaillard Center - Educational Program shows run from October to April with shows for every age group. Attend as an individual or plan a field trip for a group. Tickets are required and sell out quickly, sales open in August. These are a must see.

Homeschool Days at the Charleston Museum - located in Downtown Charleston. Classes are offered once a month at 10am. These programs include a special tour or class, an activity, and a chance to go through the Museum. These classes are designed to meet a variety of ages. Included with admission.

Pages and Pluff Mud Reading Group - located in downtown Charleston. This group is for children learning to read or struggling to read. They use All About Reading curriculum and have small class sizes.

Charleston Learning Center - located in Downtown Charleston. Offering robust classes and camps for all. Robotics summer camps are a hit here. Not homeschooler specific.

Fit Mommy Charleston - offering meetups around the Charleston area. Join other moms in community and fitness. Children welcome. Use homeschool30 for a $30 off membership discount. Your first class is free.

Mount Pleasant:

Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network - LMMN comes to you for group field trips. Their field trips include a 45 minute presentation, an in class activity, and reflection.

SCDNR Marine Science Education - Field trips offered at multiple locations for ages K-12. You can also sign up for email updates about programs offered here.

Miloki Flow Jiu Jitsu - located in Mt. Pleasant. Hosts homeschool classes on Wednesdays at 1pm.

Lowcountry Wildcats - This is a homeschool sports program that offers competitive sports teams for basketball, volleyball, soccer, and double dutch. Double Dutch (free) for grades 3rd-12th starts next week at Town Hall Gym, 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant. 1:30-2:30 (with basketball open gym following from 2:30-4:30) Wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes. Enlightened Learning - located in Mt. Pleasant and the surrounding areas. Small group Math and Science classes for students in 3rd-6th grades, taught by certified and highly qualified teachers. Classes are hands-on, follow SC State standards and can be adapted to your curriculum. Weekly classes are 90 minutes. One-on-one tutoring and reading intervention also offered.

Beach Cowboy Fitness - located in Mt. Pleasant. Beach Cowboy Fitness is a private fitness studio that specializes in gym classes for homeschooled and special needs students in grades k-5.

Young Chefs Academy - located in Mt. Pleasant. Offering a variety of cooking classes for families and children. Their homeschool class meets on Wednesday’s from 11:30am-1pm.

Code Ninjas - located in Mt. Pleasant. Offering homeschool discounts and coding classes in a fun environment made just for kids!

Growing Minds Educational Farm - Located in Mt. Pleasant. They offer a variety of classes and opportunities to learn about life on the farm from homeschool classes to mommy and me classes and even goat playdates.

Science Everywhere Adventures - located in Mt. Pleasant. This is a 14-week hands-on science program for 5-10 year olds that runs from August-November and January-April. Classes take place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

East Cooper Arts Academy - located in Mt. Pleasant. They offer multiple homeschool classes including choir, musical theater, band, Kindermusik, ballet, and drama.

Houzn Jiu Jitsu Academy - located in Mount Pleasant. They offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10-11:00 am. Crush Yard - located in Mount Pleasant. Tuesday is Homeschool Open Play from 11-1 pm. $12/child, paddles & balls included. Register on the website or in the app.

Tapio School of Dance & Gymnastics - located in Mt. Pleasant. They offer a homeschool gymnastics class at 9:30am on Thursdays. They also have daytime dance and gymnastics for ages 4 and under.

Coastal Expeditions - located on Shem Creek. They offer fall and spring homeschool expedition programs. The programs are 10 weeks long and broken up by age groups (Mon: 11-14yrs, Tues: 5-8yrs, Wed: 7-10yrs) from 11-2pm.

Charleston Salt Marsh Adventures - located in McClellanville. Offers classes for ages 8 and up that focus on boater safety, navigation, fishing, throwing cast nets, knot tying, and more. Available dates are posted on their facebook page. Email charlestonsaltmarshadventures@gmail.com.

Bricks 4 Kids - located in Mt. Pleasant at the Blair Center for the Arts. Homeschool Fridays (1:30-2:30) is a 6 week program for engineering and architectural skills building with Legos. Students will build a lego city! Ages 5-12.

Wings Basketball Homeschool Academy - located in Mt. Pleasant. 6 week programs. Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 3rd - 12th grades.

Pack Athletics - located in Mt. Pleasant. They offer tumbling ninja, and acro classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:15am.

Elementary and Middle School Immersion Style Spanish - meets on Sullivans Island. Classes are on Wednesdays from 10am-3pm, from September to May. Email andonia.mckinney@gmail.com for more info.

Chess Club - located in Mt. Pleasant. Chess club is for ages 6-15. Starting 9/4/2025 at 1:30. Contact Zach with questions: zach.dee1@hotmail.com

Mt. Pleasant Rec. Center - located in the G.M. Darby Building. Offering 2 homeschool classes for fall 2025: Art 101 Wednesday from 10-11:30am (ages 7-10) and Chess Academy Thursdays at 1:30.

Blair Center for the Arts - located in Mt. Pleasant. The Blair Center offers homeschool art classes Mondays at 1:30pm or Tuesdays at 10am. Sessions are $210 for 5 weeks. Check out their other class offers as well.

Charleston Taekwondo - located in north Mt. Pleasant. Classes for homeschoolers are held on Mondays & Wednesdays at 10am.

Nature Adventures - located in Mt. Pleasant. Nature Adventures is offering weekday specials for homeschoolers. Enjoy 50% rentals off with code: HSRENT50 or 20% off guided tours with code: HSTOUR20. (valid with at least one school aged child (4-18)). Monday - Friday through Oct 31, 2025.

Local Virtual Opportunities:

Crouching Python EdVentures - virtual (based in Charleston). Online coding classes that include hands-on, project based learning. Bob also has a youtube channel that you can check out here.
VirtualSC - VirtualSC offers FREE online classes for high school and middle school students. Classes are SC Accredited and graded for high school credit. Students sign up for individual classes and take an End of Course exam.
Gentle Mind Academy - virtual classes for students needing extra help. Taught by a husband and wife team who are not only experienced teachers but homeschool parents themselves! Classes include personalized tutoring, small group writing classes, small group early elementary classes, and more. Check out their class schedule!
Charleston Stage Theatre School At Home - A Free Weekly At-Home Theatre Program. Runs from September 8 - November 17. Families need to pick up materials in West Ashley by Aug 30 after signing up.
Field Trips Groups

LCHEA (Lowcountry Christian Home Educators Association) - a membership support groups offering field trip opportunities for every age group, spelling bee, testing, prom, father/daughter dance, clubs, STEM Expo, yearbook, graduation and more! $45/year.
GLOW Events - a membership field trip group. We are a very active social homeschool group with educational events, activities, classes, and parties in the greater Charleston area and sometimes beyond. All events are organized and scheduled by our members. GLOW Events family memberships are $15 per year. In addition, GLOW also offers GLOW Enrichment classes.
